Our certifications

Our certifications
Committed to transparency
Companies who are seriously committed to offering an environment-friendly product must fulfill rigorous criteria that are regularly verified by certification bodies. Paper certifications aim at protecting the environment, promoting sustainable practices and informing consumers about the best ecological choices available.
Earning these certifications and holding ourselves accountable to specific key attributes are what make us one of North America’s most environmentally-friendly paper manufacturers.
Our certifications and designation

FSC®
Forest Stewardship Council Certification supports responsible use of forest resources across all paper manufacturing steps, which means our paper products can be tracked back to an FSC-certified source.
FSC® Recycled
This certifies products that are made with 100% recycled fiber.
FSC® Mixed sources
This identifies the products made with a combination of FSC® virgin fiber, and/or recycled materials with controlled virgin fiber.

Preferred by Nature™
Rolland’s FSC® Chain of Custody (FSC® C009908) is certified by Preferred by NatureTM. Preferred by NatureTM is a non-profit organisation working to support better land management and sustainable business practices that benefit people, nature and the climate in over 100 countries.

The Ancient Forest Friendly™
The Ancient Forest Friendly™ designation is one of the most rigorous paper labels available. Ancient Forest Friendly™ paper is free of ancient or endangered forest fiber, made with 100% recycled fiber, and whitened without chlorine.

ISO 9001
Rolland’s management system has been certified to ISO 9001
Our environmental attributes

Recycled fiber
This indicates the percentage amount of recycled fiber in our paper. Rolland uses post-consumer recycled fiber that has been reclaimed from products after they have been used for their intended purpose by either individuals, households or by commercial, industrial or institutional facilities.

Biogas Energy
Paper manufactured using a green and local energy resulting from the decomposition of organic waste from a landfill site. The use of biogas for our thermal energy needs allows us to considerably reduce our greenhouse gas emissions at the source.

Permanent Paper
This is alkaline or neutral paper that resists aging for more than 100 years under normal warehousing conditions (criteria and certifications established by the American National Standards Institute—ANSI).

Process chlorine free
This refers to paper that has been manufactured and processed chlorine-free. It only applies to recycled fiber.

Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF)
The paper’s virgin fiber has been bleached without chlorine, but with a chlorine derivative.
