Life Cycle Assessment

Life cycle assessment
At Rolland, we look beyond recycling to analyze the impact of everything we do. We have conducted a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to assess and manage the footprint of our papers, demonstrating that Rolland Enviro® paper has the smallest environmental footprint when compared to the average papers in North America.
We can help you manage your own paper footprint. By using Rolland papers, you can achieve a substantial improvement in your ecological balance sheet.
What is an LCA?
An LCA is a systems-based, quantitative method for evaluating the environmental impact of a product. It is a leading tool used to assess the environmental impact of a product’s entire life cycle, from raw materials extraction through materials processing, manufacturing, distribution, to disposal.
Our LCA conforms to ISO 14040-14044 standards for LCA studies with comparative assertions intended to be disclosed to the public. That means results and conclusions were subject to a formal peer review process.

Stronger focus
An LCA allows us to focus on the most significant environmental impacts as we develop and evaluate sustainability programs and policies.

Informed decisions
It informs product decisions on the potential environmental impacts from raw materials sourcing, operations and transportation.

Engaged end-users
It supports engagement with end-users to reduce the impact of the product through its life and disposal.

Rolland Enviro®, the best in its category
Better for you and the environment
Rolland Enviro® has the smallest environmental footprint when compared to other recycled and virgin papers in the industry. That’s because it’s made with 100% post-consumer recycled fiber, processed without chlorine and made using renewable energy, including biogas and hydroelectricity.
Comparison
Rolland Enviro® is the best compared to the average virgin and 100% recycled paper in North America.

Impact on climate change
Rolland Enviro®’s climate change impact is mainly attributable to emissions from paper decomposing in landfills and the fuel needed to collect used paper. The energy sources we use to manufacture our papers – biogas and hydroelectricity – help to greatly reduce the impact on climate change.
